DANBURY, Conn. -- The Veterans Walkway of Honor, with more than 250 bricks honoring local veterans, will be dedicated at noon Sunday, at the Danbury War Memorial in Rogers Park.

The Danbury Veterans Walkway has been a part of the city since 1994, but new memorial bricks have been added.

"We are very excited to have this walkway in Danbury to honor our veterans. It will forever preserve the memory of loved ones who have served bravely for our country," said Lee Teicholz, project organizer.

The Veterans Walkway of Honor is a permanent commemorative walkway lined with bricks engraved with the names of honored men and women who have served our country. The engraved bricks line the walkway at the Danbury War Memorial, leading from the building to the memorial monuments.

The initial brick sales were extremely successful with more than 250 bricks sold to honor veterans. Profits go to the Danbury War Memorial with a portion to help the Wounded Warrior Project and other local veteran organizations.

The dedication program begins at noon. The Celtic Cross Pipe and Drums of Danbury will open the event with a flag line from the Connecticut Cruise News Minuteman Riders and honor guards from the Danbury Police Honor Guard and the Danbury Council of Veterans.

Mary E. Teicholz will serve as the master of ceremonies, and Steven Johnston will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. John R. Stanton, a tenor with the Boston Lyric Opera, will sing the National Anthem, and Ken Post of the Danbury Council of Veterans will play "Taps."

Deacon Richard P. Kovacs of St. Gregory The Great Roman Catholic Church will give the invocation.

Speakers will include state Rep. Jan Giegler, R-138th District, project organizer Lee M. Teicholz and Thomas Quinn of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Dan Hayes, director of the Danbury War Memorial, will lead the dedication.

"What better way to honor America's veterans and to preserve the memory of a loved one who served bravely for our country," said Teicholz.

In case of bad weather, the dedication will take place inside the War Memorial. The Danbury War Memorial Association Inc. is a nonprofit recreational and educational facility located in Rogers Park.

Bricks can still be purchased for later phases of the walkway. For more information on the walkway or about purchasing a brick, visit the group's website
