The hotspots are powered by T-Mobile and are available to be checked out for two weeks by Danbury Library adult cardholders. The hotspots will allow library customers to bring free, high-speed Internet access to their home, workplace, while commuting and even vacation.
“This new service will help bridge the digital gap in the community for those who do not have home Internet access," Katy Chung, digital services librarian, said in a press release. "Students can use the Internet for help with their homework and projects, employees can travel with reliable Internet access to meetings and presentations, and library customers can have home access to the library’s digital resources such as databases, e-books, streaming music and movies.”
The new hotspots will make it possible for those library cardholders who do not have Wi-Fi at home to take advantage of the library’s technology lending program, which includes checking out iPads, Kindles and Roku boxes.
Danbury residents who do not have a library card can request a free card online at danburylibrary.org.
