DANBURY, Conn. — A man who fell from the roof of a Danbury social club and became impaled on a large piece of metal was recovering on Wednesday, according to his family.

“He is out of surgery and doctor said it went well,” the victim’s sister said in a post on Facebook. “At the moment he is in recovery and will then have a full workup to make sure nothing else is going on. My parents and I appreciate all the support calls and texts and most importantly prayers.”

The 34-year-old man was in stable condition after surgery at Danbury Hospital to remove a foot-long section of the post from his chest, according to the News-Times.

On Tuesday morning, the man fell about 10 feet from the roof of the Casa Do Benfica Soccer and Social Club at 28 Federal Road, said James Gagliardo, public information officer for the Danbury Fire Department.

Danbury firefighters used a metal-cutting saw to sever the metal post from the stand and secure a foot-long piece to the man for transport to Danbury Hospital, Gagliardo said. The post was part of a barbecue grill.

The man, a member of the club's board, was checking an exhaust fan on the roof when he fell, according to the News-Times.
