DANBURY, Conn. — Longtime Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton is facing surgery Tuesday to remove a benign brain tumor from behind his left ear, the News-Times reported.

Boughton, a Republican candidate for governor in 2018, told the News-Times he expects to make a full recovery after the surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

The tumor, which is about the size of a lemon, is known as an Intracranial epidermoid cyst, the News-Times said.

City Council President Joseph Cavo will take over the work duties for Boughton, who could return for limited duties in as little as two weeks, the News-Times said.

The mayor was diagnosed after suffering from dizzy spells and severe headaches, the News-Times.

Boughton is up for re-election this fall for what would be his ninth term.
