DANBURY, Conn. -- State Sen. Mike McLachlan said it's unacceptable that state police troopers are not scheduled to patrol Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield over the Memorial Day weekend, according to WLAD.com.
McLachlan, who represents Danbury, Bethel, New Fairfield and Sherman, has written to the state police and the commissioner of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to complain that as the unofficial start of summer, the area can easily fill to capacity and that police coverage is needed, said WLAD.com.
He added, that if no police protection is going to be offered, then the park should be closed for the weekend. Although troopers will not be on hand, environmental conservation officers will be at the parks, but said their jurisdiction stops at the end of the park, and they aren't in charge of traffic or enforcing laws, added WLAD.com.
