DANBURY, Conn. — A 22-year-old Danbury woman charged with abandoning her newborn son behind a Main Street market is considering a plea deal in the case, according to the News-Times.

Anny Castillo, 22, was charged with child abandonment, risk of injury and cruelty to persons in July. Her newborn son was found at 11:30 p.m. May 21 behind the Zaytuna Grocery by a man walking in the area who heard the boy crying, police said.

Castillo's attorney confirmed the plea bargain but did not disclose what the prosecutors had offered, the News-Times said.

Castillo said she gave birth alone at home after hiding her pregnancy, police said. She told police that she wrapped the baby in women's clothing and left him behind the store because she couldn’t care for him.

The baby has since been placed with a foster family by the state Department of Children and Families.

The defense lawyer was also seeking a mental health evaluation for Castillo, who went to police days after giving birth as they searched for the abandoned baby's mother.
