For more than a year, labor unions and community groups in Connecticut have supported a growing movement of workers fighting to raise wages and freely choose to organize.

AFT Connecticut has backed those efforts "because a rising tide truly does lift all boats -- and because too many of our own members earn less than $15 per hour," the group said in a statement.

The union said it is joining with its allies on April 15 as part of a coordinated day of action.

The rally will begin at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Danbury Public Library, 170 Main St.

Participants are urged to park at the Patriot Garage, Bardo Garage at Library Place or City Hall.

"Your support for the 'Fight for $15 and a Union' will make a difference, and not just for the fast-food workers who started this movement," the union said. "The great lesson of the labor movement is that all workers -- and their families -- are worth more."

AFT Connecticut is a labor federation of nearly 30,000 teachers and school support staff, nurses and health care  workers, higher education faculty and public service workers from more than 90 local unions throughout the state.
