SOUTHEAST, N.Y. -- The New York Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will be holding a public hearing Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the Town of Southeast regarding Spectra's proposed expanded compressor stations.

The hearing will be held at 6 p.m. Henry H. Wells Middle School Auditorium, 570 Route 312.

Some area residents are concerned about potential health risks the expanded Southeast compressor station could pose to residents of North Salem and other nearby communities.

According to documents Spectra has submitted to FERC, Spectra expects that the expanded Southeast compressor station will emit more than 200,0000 more tons of emissions annually than it currently does.

The toxins emitted increase the risk of respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, developmental and reproductive damage. The hearing is an opportunity to learn more about the health risks for residents.

A NYS DEC air permit is necessary for Spectra's Algonquin pipeline expansion (AIM) to proceed. The purpose of the expansion is to export gas. It will not impact the availability of gas for North Salem.

Additional information is available at www.sape2016.org. or on Facebook.

Residents unable to attend the hearings, can submit a written comment by Feb. 13, 2015 to: Michael T.
