The meeting will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday, March 30, at the 3rd Floor Conference Room of Danbury City Hall, 155 Deer Hill Ave.
The purpose of these projects is to provide safety and intersection improvements along Newtown Road. This would be done through the following plans:
- Intersection improvements at Old Shelter Rock Road include adding designated left-turn lanes, realigning Old Shelter Rock Road to form a “T”-shaped intersection, and installing a new traffic signal.
- Newtown Road would be widened to two lanes to provide westbound traffic bypass capability, gaps in existing runs of sidewalk would be connected and upgraded, and the roadway pavement would be resurfaced.
- Intersection improvements at Old Newtown Road, Plumtrees Road, Eagle Road and Industrial Plaza Drive include the installation of a raised median, widening shoulders, and upgrading pedestrian facilities.
- The intersection at Old Newtown Road would also be "normalized" and a new driveway providing access to the Public Works Complex and future commercial development is proposed on its south side.
Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2017 depending on the availability of state funding. The estimated construction cost for these projects is approximately $11.3 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state funds.
Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.
