In state Superior Court in Danbury, Alexander Lee was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison, suspended after eight years, followed by five years of probation after pleading guilty last month to misconduct with a motor vehicle, tampering with physical evidence and evading responsibility leading to death, the News Times said.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Route 302 and Old Hawleyville Road in Bethel on Oct. 20, 2013.
Lee turned left on to Old Hawleyville as Tom Steinert-Threlkeld, 59, approached the intersection from the other direction. Steinert-Threlked collided with the rear passenger side of the vehicle driven by Lee. A second vehicle turned on to Route 302 from Old Hawleyville and pinned the cyclist under the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Lee fled the scene without stopping.
The accident occurred as Steinert-Threlkeld was returning home from a ride. He was about 12 miles from home when the accident occurred.
An avid cyclist, Steinert-Threlkeld was the editorial director of B2B Publishing at IBT Media.
Lee apologized for not stopping at the accident scene in court, where the victim's wife, sons and sisters spoke of their devastating loss, the New Times said.
