DANBURY, Conn. -- Eversource is working to make natural gas available to more communities around the state, giving people another fuel to heat their homes or businesses.
In 2015, Eversource installed nearly 14 miles of new gas main in parts of Bozrah, Danbury, Franklin, Putnam, Southington, Vernon and Waterbury.
Terms are being finalized on a large-scale plan in Darien to bring natural gas to the town’s municipal buildings, schools, several homes and three community revitalization projects.
“We’ve heard from thousands of people who are interested in converting to a more efficient and environmentally-friendly fuel,” said William Akley, president of Gas Operations for Eversource. “Not only are we eager to get this year’s projects underway, but we look forward to increasing the opportunity to deliver the benefits of reliable and domestic natural gas to more customers.”
The vast uses of natural gas make it one of the most versatile forms of energy for everyday life, including water heating, clothes drying and cooking, as well as barbecuing, fueling fire pits and even heating swimming pools and hot tubs.
With more customers looking to benefit from the usefulness of natural gas and as part of the state’s Comprehensive Energy Strategy, Eversource’s expansion work will continue for the next several years, the company said.
