FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — A fatal shooting in Norwalk, the arrest of a felon with a loaded gun, a huge GoFundMe for a Bridgeport man, a Norwalk mother who took refuge in a church to avoid deportation and a survey of top hot dog stands were among the top stories this past week in Fairfield County.

Jonas Labaze, a 24-year-old convicted felon, was arrested at a bus terminal in Norwalk after leaving his probation officer with a loaded handgun and crack, police said.

David Patton, 65, of Danbury, died of injuries he suffered during a five-car pileup on I-84 in Southeast, N.Y., police said. His father and one of his sisters were seriously injured in the crash, and a second sister who was driving when their car was rear-ended also suffered injuries, police said.

Kami Evans was just trying to "get the lay of the land" as a mom when she started a bunch of Facebook pages five years ago, asking pointed questions about local services. Now the Fairfield mother of two is a bonafide social media influencer with more than 60 pages on Facebook, some with up to 1.5 million visitors.

Norwalk Police were investigating after 26-year-old Johnny Lezeau of Norwalk was gunned down on Ely Avenue in a drive-by shooting. He died at Norwalk Hospital.

Nury Chavarria, 43, a Norwalk mother of four, lost a battle to remain in the U.S. and was scheduled to be deported to her native Guatemala. Instead, she took sanctuary in a church in New Haven. Chavarria, who has been in the U.S. since she was 19, works and pays taxes.

Fairfield County is a hotbed for hot dogs, according to The Daily Meal, which ranks three area eateries among the best in the nation. Super Duper Weenie in Fairfield, Rawley's Drive-In in Fairfield and Danny's Drive-In in Stratford were named "The best hot dogs in America."

Cris Concepcion, 24, of Bridgeport was the second man arrested and charged with murder in a May shooting in Stratford. Andre Pettway, 27, of Bridgeport was killed just after being released from prison.

A Bridgeport man who rushed to save the victim of a car crash in Westport said he is grateful after receiving more than $50,000 in donations to help him get back on his feet. But 32-year-old Aaron Tucker asked supporters to stop sending donations.  

Willard McDonald, a 46-year-old from Stratford who went missing in the Housatonic River in Shelton, was found dead in the water near the Sunnyside Boat Ramp, police said.

Professional wrestler Shane McMahon, son of Vince and Linda McMahon of Greenwich, was safe after a helicopter carrying him made an emergency landing in the Atlantic Ocean near Gilgo Beach and Jones Beach off Long Island.
