Currently the director of the Danbury War Memorial, Hayes's official title will be Veteran Services Officer. The Danbury War Memorial will provide services that the city used to provide. Money has been set aside in the 2016-17 budget to fund the services, said WLAD.com.

Hayes joined the War Memorial Board of Directors in 1999 and served six years, before becoming the manager, and then executive director in 2010, added WLAD.com.
