Nevas represented the mother (in a divorce case) of the infamous Pardue brothers, John and James, a pair of Westporters who conducted a two-year crime spree that included the bombing of a police station, bank, and their own getaway car, in Danbury in 1970; several murders, and numerous hold-ups, according to reports in the Danbury News Times and Westport Now.
Nevas will speak on at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, during the club’s meeting at the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East, Westport.
Nevas, a member of the retired men’s group, is a retired senior U.S. District Court judge and is still an arbitrator and mediator in a broad range of commercial disputes.
He also counsels clients on complex litigation and pre-litigation strategy issues.
Nevas has also served as a U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
In the 1970s, he represented Westport in the Connecticut General Assembly, and in his second and third terms he served as deputy House majority and deputy House minority leader.
