The burning bus stopped near Exit 4 for Lake Avenue, causing backups to Exit 5 for Route 53/Route 39 for part of the afternoon.

The left rear tire of the bus blew out, then the wheel caught fire and it spread to the side of the bus, the News Times reported.

The passengers, numbering about 50, were evacuated and no injuries were reported, the News Times said.

DOT traffic cameras in the area showed fire personnel near the bus parked on the shoulder near Exit 4. The passengers could be seen standing on the grass nearby.

By about 1 p.m., a wrecker was on the scene to tow the bus, a process that took a couple of hours to complete.

The bus fire was first reported at about 12:20 p.m.

Fire Department spokesman Steve Rogers said the department had units on I-84 for the bus fire as well as on Triangle Street for a truck fire reported at the same, the News Times reports.
