FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Metro-North workers are set to continue work on a New Haven Line track that will keep it out of service until May.

This work will begin on Track 1 between the Melrose and Woodlawn stations in the Bronx. New Haven and Harlem Line trains operate over the four tracks in the area and then merge with the Hudson Line south of this location, representatives said in a release.

"This track will remain out of service continuously until early May, so that track can be rebuilt and drainage can be improved," representatives said. "Once the work is completed, crews will clean up debris in the area as quickly and efficiently as possible as well."

When the work is complete, the 40-mph speed restriction on the center track will be lifted, resulting in improved performance and reliability in time for our next timetable change on May 11," according to the release.

The availability of only three tracks in this area of the Bronx will limit operating flexibility in the event of an incident affecting service, which could result in delays, officials said in the release.

The New Haven Line serves riders from Connecticut and coastal Westchester County, N.Y.
