Metro-North Will Reduce Trains To Hourly Service On New Haven Line

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Metro-North will continue to operate on its regular schedule on the New Haven Line in Fairfield County through 8 p.m. Tuesday, but it will cut trains to an hourly schedule at that time due to the heavy snow, it announced via a statement.

Metro-North said the changes will enable it to provide the best service possible while ensuring the safety of passengers.

Tuesday, Jan. 21, Metro-North will operate a regular PM Peak schedule on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines until 8 p.m. After 8 p.m., hourly service will be in effect on all lines for the remainder of the night.

The following cancellations/combinations will be in effect:

New Haven Line inbound? trains:

  • The 7:56 p.m. train from New Haven is combined with the 9:03 p.m. train from Stamford, making all local stops from New Haven to Grand Central Terminal.
  • The 8:49 p.m. train from New Haven is combined with the 10:03 p.m. train from Stamford, making all local stops from New Haven to Grand Central Terminal.
  • The 9:46 p.m. train from New Haven is combined with the 11:03 p.m. train from Stamford, making all local stops from New Haven to Grand Central Terminal.
  • The 10:46 p.m. train from New Haven is combined with the 12:03 a.m. train from Stamford, making all local stops from New Haven to Grand Central Terminal.
  • The 11:36 p.m. train from New Haven is combined with the 12:55 a.m. train from Stamford, making all local stops from New Haven to Grand Central Terminal.

New Haven Line outbound trains:

  • The 8:03 p.m. train to New Haven is combined. Customers may take the 8:06 p.m. train to New Haven.
  • The 8:32 p.m. train to New Haven is canceled. Customers may take the 8:06 p.m. or 9:07 p.m. train to New Haven.
  • The 9:09 p.m. train to Stamford is canceled. Customers may take the 8:39 p.m. or 9:39 p.m. trains to Stamford.
  • The 9:34 p.m. train to New Haven is canceled. Customers may take the 9:07 p.m. or 10:07 p.m. trains to New Haven. Customers connecting to stations on the Danbury and Waterbury branches should take the 10:07 p.m. train from Grand Central, which will have a connection for Danbury at South Norwalk, and a connection for Waterbury at Bridgeport.
  • The 10:09 p.m. train to Stamford is canceled. Customers may take the 9:39 p.m. or 10:39 p.m. trains to Stamford.
  • The 10:31 p.m. train to New Haven is canceled. Customers may take the 10:07 p.m. or 11:22 p.m. trains to New Haven.
  • The 11:09 p.m. train to Stamford is canceled. Customers may take the 10:39 p.m. or 11:39 p.m. trains to Stamford.
  • The 12:07 a.m. train to New Haven is combined with the 12:09 a.m. train to Stamford, which will depart at 12:09 a.m. and make all local stops to New Haven.
  • The 1:07 a.m. train to New Haven is combined with the 1:09 a.m. train to Stamford, which will depart at 1:09 a.m. and make all local stops to New Haven.
  • The 1:47 a.m. train to New Haven is combined with the 1:53 a.m. train to Stamford, which will depart at 1:53 a.m. and make all local stops to New Haven.

The storm arrived in the metropolitan New York City area earlier than predicted, bringing higher snow accumulation and stronger wind gusts, raising the prospect of snow drifts of up to two feet, Metro-North said in a statement.

Customers were urged to take care when traveling during the snowstorm. Use caution when entering and exiting trains, and while on platforms and staircases at stations.

Many trains were experiencing delays of five to 10 minutes or more during the storm Tuesday.
