Lincoln died of "homicidal violence of undetermined type," the state medical examiner's office told NBC Connecticut on Wednesday.

The remains were found in a swampy area behind an industrial building on Watson Boulevard in Stratford?, police said.

Hours after the grisly discovery, a person of interest in her disappearance committed suicide in his Stratford home, said Bridgeport police spokesman William Kaempffer.

Lincoln was last seen with Marcus Jackson, 36, at 11:12 pm. Saturday, March 27, as they were leaving the Old Timers Club at 1296 Stratford Ave. in Bridgeport. Jackson owns the building.

As officers knocked on the door of his home Monday, they heard a gunshot, Kaempffer said. Jackson was found dead inside the house from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, he said.

“This is a horrible episode and our thoughts go out to the communities in Bridgeport and Stratford,” said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch. “Police have worked tirelessly trying to find and bring Minnie home. But there is information we do not yet know. Detectives are continuing to search for those answers.”

Jackson worked as a supervisor in the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center, according to the Connecticut Post.

Police have returned to the spot where Lincoln's torso was found with dogs to search for more body parts, the Post said. Police told the Post they searched the marsh after they saw Jackson driving in the area on video from a nearby surveillance camera after Lincoln's disappearance.
