8:45 p.m. update: DANBURY, Conn. -- Nearly all power had been restored to the area by 8:45 p.m. Thursday, CL&P reported on its website.

South Street was closed in the area near the Bethel border while repairs were made, Mayor Mark Boughton said.

Original story: DANBURY, Conn. -- As snow and temperatures were dropping Thursday night, more than 1,000 customers in Danbury were without power after a car crashed into a utility pole, Connecticut Light & Power reported on its website.

The 1,048 customers represent 3 percent of the city's customers, CL&P said.

"We have a pole down in the South St area from an accident. Almost 1,000 ppl without power. Due to high winds, repair could take 12-14 hrs," Mayor Mark Boughton said via Twitter @MayorMark.
