As if you needed an excuse, the frigid temperatures during this Valentine’s Day weekend will be more than enough reason to huddle inside with your sweetheart, say weather forecasters.

An Arctic blast will drop temperatures to record lows, especially on Saturday into Sunday, when the thermostat may plunge to as low as -10 with wind chills of -30, says AccuWeather.com.

The cold will stretch from Philadelphia to Boston and beyond, forecasters say, and bring biting winds, flurries, and even some sudden bursts of snow along with frigid temperatures.

This will cause dangerous conditions for anyone outside, especially the homeless, they said.

A Wind Chill Warning is in effect through noon Sunday for all of Fairfield County, as well as Connecticut and the Hudson Valley. That will be the coldest part of the weekend as temperatures plunge below zero — to as low as - 10 — along with what the National Weather Service describes as "life threatening wind chills" of -25 to -30 due to strong northwest winds in the evening and overnight into the morning.

The hazards include extreme and dangerous cold; frozen pipes, frostbite and hypothermia.

The National Weather Service advises residents to wear layers, including hats and gloves; bring pets indoors; and to heat homes safely and only with indoor-approved devices.

On Valentine’s Day, temperatures may challenge a record low. In the Bridgeport area, the record low of 3 degrees for Feb. 14 was set just last year.

Sunday will be cold, with a high temperature of only about 10 degrees expected. On Sunday night, the low temperature will drop to about 0.

For Monday, Presidents Day, the temperature will rise to about 32 degrees, but there is a chance of snow on the holiday.

By Monday evening, a snowy, icy and rainy may strike Fairfield County into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
