FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Here's a look at the top stories in Fairfield County this past week:

A 35-year-old Norwalk man is facing numerous firearm charges after he confronted a friend at his Greenwich home and shot at an oxygen tank in an attempt to cause an explosion, according to police. The Norwalk man then fled in his car, hitting the victim in the process, before crashing near Westchester County Airport, where he was arrested after a police chase, police said.

An elderly man died after he was found unresponsive in a Darien pool and pulled out from under six feet of water. 

A Bridgeport woman was issued a summons on a charge of animal cruelty after Norwalk police rescued her dog from her hot car in the parking lot at Stew Leonard's in Norwalk. A Stamford man faces a similar charge after leaving his German shepherd in his car at ShopRite, police said. 

Paul Gallant, the entrepreneur behind Paul's Custom Pet Food, started to make his own dog food to help his own pet, Hunter. Gallant now makes and sells his high-quality pet food to others, setting up shop at the Westport Farmers Market and taking orders. 

Danbury mourned the death of Joseph DePalma, 54, who had been an art teacher at Rogers Park Middle School in Danbury for over 30 years. In 2006, he was awarded Teacher of the Year.

The 28-year-old driver who struck and killed a 72-year-old bicyclist in Stamford in May was given a ticket for being on his cellphone at the time the accident occurred, police said. 

A 37-year-old Bridgeport man was shot to death while sitting in a parked car in front of his Bridgeport home. The wounded driver drove both of them to the hospital.

The latest buzz was all about the West Nile virus, after infected mosquitoes were trapped in Bridgeport, Darien, Stamford and Stratford. 

A Redding man charged with groping a 14-year-old girl at the Fairfield fireworks in July has been accused of similar wrongdoings in the past, police said.

A fugitive from justice wanted in New Jersey was arrested at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown after a police chase. Police had picked up a signal from his GPS ankle bracelet on Main Street.
