Route 53 To Close For Construction Starting Monday

REDDING, Conn. -- Commuters who take Route 53 are in for a rude awakening Monday morning. The roadway will be closed in both directions in Redding beginning June 13 for bridge work.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation said the road will be closed in both directions just south of Umpawaug Road for bridge replacement work for much of the summer.

The closure is expected to last through the end of August.

Motorists can detour on Umpawaug Road, or take another route through the area.
