Route 6 Closed Near Danbury

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Route 6 is closed Wednesday morning due to a gas leak between Exits 8 and 9 on Interstate 84, police said.

The road is closed between the Bethel town line and Route 25 in Newtown, near Danbury, police said. Yankee Gas said gas is escaping from a crack in the pavement on Route 6, which is also called Mount Pleasant Road in the area. The leak was found overnight.

Because of the heavy fog, the smell of gas is heavy in the area, police warned.
