DANBURY, Conn. -- U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy are voicing their concerns over delays in the construction of a new facility at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, according to the CT Mirror.
The Democratic senators from Connecticut were joined by colleagues who wrote a letter to the federal Bureau of Prisons expressing concerns over the 200 prisoners who have been transferred as well as a halt in a drug rehabilitation program that could potentially reduce prison sentences, the Mirror reported.
Construction efforts were underway in order to allow the facility to house both female and male prisoners and was estimated to take 18 months to complete. As of now, construction has yet to begin and new estimates are closer to 30 months until completion, the Mirror said.
