The cold “therapy laser” helps with pain relief and healing and is most often applied to joints that are painful from injury, old age, or arthritis.
“We use our therapy laser routinely after surgery because it reduces pain and inflammation at the surgical site and greatly helps our patients,” according to Hubsher.
In addition, the therapy laser is also applied to large wounds that sometimes take a longer time to heal. The laser helps the animals heal much faster by drawing the healing components found in blood to that particular area. At the same time, it is able to increase the rate of healing and recovery and decreases pain.
“We use it almost every day and we are getting a good response,” Hubsher stated. Another way lasers are used in veterinary medicine is during surgery. A scalpel is rarely used during surgery at both South Salem Animal Hospital and Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital. “Instead, we've chosen to use a CO2 laser, an expensive and advanced machine that cuts like a scalpel, but better,” said Hubsher.
A CO2 laser seals nerve endings and blood vessels which renders surgeries practically painless and bloodless. “With every animal we treat, we're committed to the well being of our patient.
