The swimming area at the popular state park is closed as of Wednesday morning due to issues with water quality, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced. The department said it would resample the water quality later Wednesday.

Squantz Park is a popular summer beach and frequently is forced to close on summer weekends when the parking lot fills up.

DEEP officials and the leadership in New Fairfield are at odds over the policy of allowing walk-in visitors at the popular park. Click here to read about the issue in the Daily Voice.
