Suspicious Package Shuts Down Metro-North In Fairfield

Updated: FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Metro-North and Amtrak halted train service through Fairfield on Friday morning after a suspicious package was found on the tracks, a Metro-North spokesman confirmed.

The incident bean unfolding before 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Unquowa Road and the Fairfield train station are also closed.

The MTA Police are investigating, Metro-North said.

The State Police bomb squad has been called in to the area.

Metro-North offered this advisory at about 7:15 a.m.:

"New Haven Line service is temporarily delayed for trains traveling through Fairfield station. Trains are restricted from traveling through this area while Police are investigating a suspicious package. We expect delays of 30 to 60 minutes at this time. Please listen for announcements at your station."

At about 7 a.m., Metro-North Railroad had said via Twitter ‏@MetroNorth: "New Haven Line service is temporarily delayed for trains traveling through the vicinity of Fairfield station due to Police Activity."
