Update, 6 a.m.: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — The storm moving through will drop most of its snow from Greenwich to Norwalk to Danbury overnight Thursday and into Friday.
About an inch of snow was expected through the day Thursday. Two to five more inches of snow could be on the ground by the time the storm moves out Friday, the National Weather Service says.
"Period of light snow and rain today will become all snow this evening and continue though tonight before tapering off by noon Friday," the National Weather Service says. "Moderate snow may fall at times."
The wet snow could make travel difficult. Winds will blow from 10 to 20 mph, with gusts of up to 25 mph, the National Weather Service says.
A flood advisory remains in effect for coastal areas until 9 a.m., Thursday. A winter weather advisory is in effect until noon, Friday.
FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- With a prolonged period of accumulating snow expected, a winter weather advisory is now in effect until noon Friday in Fairfield County, the National Weather Service said.
Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches of wet snow were expected into Thursday morning, with another 2 to 3 inches possible Thursday into Friday, the weather service said. A total of 3 to 6 inches is possible.
Temperatures will range from the upper 20s to the mid-30s with winds of 16 to 20 mph gusting to 39 mph, the weather service said.
A wintry mix was possible overnight, changing over to all snow.
A gale warning is also in effect until 6 p.m. Friday along western Long Island Sound with winds of 20 to 30 knots and gusts of up to 45 knots, the weather service said. Seas of 4 to 8 feet are expected. The strongest winds were expected through Thursday morning.
Travel may be difficult through Thursday night and into Friday, the weather service warned. Heavy, wet snow combined with strong winds could lead to downed power lines and tree branches. Roads may be slippery and visibility limited.
