Abbe J. Cormier, 75, Danbury Resident

DANBURY, Conn. – Abbe J. Cormier, of Danbury, husband of Mary (Gulla) Cormier, died Thursday, April 7 at Regional Hospice Center for Comfort Care and Healing in Danbury. He was 75.

Cormier was born in Barachois, New Brunswick, Canada, April 7, 1941, a son of the late Aurele and Odila (Caissie) Cormier. He attended schools in Canada and was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy. He immigrated to the U.S. from Canada in 1962, and eventually established his own hardwood flooring business, Abbe’s Floors. He then became a partner and owner of Kent Floors for 22 years. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Parish of Danbury.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, Mary, he is survived by two sons, Michael Cormier and his wife, Jennifer, and Philip Cormier and his wife, Shannon; five grandchildren, Christina, Brittany, Alyssa, Cassie and Meghan; seven siblings, Gary, Leo, Josette, Rosario, Guy, Frank and Roland; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:15-11:15 a.m. at the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury. Funeral services will take place on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury, with Deacon William Murphy of St. Gregory the Great Church officiating. Interment will be private and at the direction of the family in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
