Albert L. Kraus, 91, Of Danbury, World War II Veteran

DANBURY, Conn. - Albert L. Kraus of Danbury, formerly of Ridgefield, died Monday, June 30. He was 91.

Kraus was born March 4, 1923, in the Bronx, N.Y., to Albert and Sally (Deneen) Kraus. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. After the war, he graduated from Niagara University in New York and worked for many years at Olin Corp. in New York City and later in Stamford before retiring in 1983.

He lived and raised his family in the 1950s and 1960s in Syosset, Long Island, N.Y., and then moved in 1969 to Ridgefield before moving in 1995 to Danbury. He was active in the St. Mary's church community, as well as, coaching local Little League and sports teams in the Ridgefield area. After retiring, he volunteered for many years at Good Shepherd House and Pivot Ministries in Norwalk.

Kraus is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Mary Crowe (Ken) of Corte Madera, Calif., Patricia Coleman (James) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Margaret Rumrill (George) of Groton, Kevin Kraus (Mary Jane) of Old Greenwich, Kathleen Thivierge of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Albert Kraus (Shelley) of Goodyear, Ariz., Eileen Drake Cipolla (Ron) of Bethel, and Robert Kraus (Catherine) of Newtown; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Sally Cavanaugh; granddaughter, Sandra Drake; and son-in-law, Ricky Thivierge.

Calling hours are Saturday, July 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Road, Danbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 5, at 11 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ridgefield.
