Alexandre M. Mendes, 70, Of Danbury, Retired Machine Operator, Amphenol Co.

DANBURY, Conn. - Alexandre M. Mendes of Danbury died Monday, Dec. 15. He was 70.

Mendes was born in Portugal, to Joaquim and Louisa (Marques) Mendes. He attended school in Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1970, where he went to work as a machine operator for the former Amphenol Company until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Portuguese Cultural Center and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Mendes is survived by his wife, Fernanda Mendes; son, George Mendes of New York City; daughter, Irene DaSilva of Brookfield; two grandchildren; sister, Helena Lopes of Danbury; brothers, Graciano and Jose Mendes of France; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Antonio, David and Ataide Mendes.

Calling hours are Thursday, Dec. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery.
