Armando James Tarsi, 90, Of Danbury, Retired Police Officer

DANBURY, Conn. - Armando James "Mindo" Tarsi of Danbury died Friday, July 25. He was 90.

Tarsi was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Danbury, and was the son of Alessandro and Rosa (Eppoliti) Tarsi. He lived in Danbury his entire life. He attended St. Peter's School and Danbury High School. He joined the United States Army in February 1943, as a radio operator. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal.

He was involved in Danbury Athletics working as a referee, playing football for the Barbary Coast, and as a coach. He was inducted into the Danbury Old-Timers Association in 1997. After working at the Frank Lee Hat Factory, he became a Danbury police officer until his retirement in 1970. He was one of the founding members of the Danbury Police Union. After his retirement from the police force, he worked at Lathrop Lawnmower Shop, as a tape librarian at Grolier Enterprises, and as a driver for Sweetheart Bus. He was a member of Saint Edward the Confessor Church of New Fairfield for 50 years.

Tarsi is survived by his children, Ronald Tarsi (Elaine) of Columbus, Ohio, Rosemary Pardalis (Thomas) of New Fairfield, and Alan Tarsi (Lisa) of Danbury; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Adele (Alhage) Tarsi; brothers, Aldo, Dino, and Americo; and sister, Theresa Baldelli.

Calling hours are Tuesday, July 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury will military honors.
