Danbury Firefighter Kenneth Flynn Jr. 'Coach Grandpa' Dies

DANBURTY, Conn. -- Former Danbury firefighter Kenneth P. Flynn died on Jan. 17.

Affectionately known as “Coach Grandpa,” he was a lifelong Danbury resident.

Ken was a dedicated employee of Danbury Hospital for 39 years and a volunteer firefighter at Miry Brook Fire Department. He loved playing softball and enjoyed time coaching, especially his grandchildren’s baseball teams. 

He is predeceased by his father, Kenneth P. Flynn, Sr., and his brother, Richard Flynn.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; his mother Mary; his children Kevin and Cecily Flynn, Carrie and Dave Carlson, Katie Flynn and Chris and Vikki Salese. 

He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Shawn, Sara and Megan Carlson, Isabella, Gabrielle, and Alyssa Flynn, and Grant and Noah Salese as well as his siblings Deborah, Bridget, Edward, Mary Lou, Patrick, and Timothy.

Services were held Tuesday.
