DANBURY, Conn. — Edith I. Berntsen, 91, died Nov. 15 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation in New Milford. She was born on July 26, 1924, in Staten Island, N.Y., daughter of Harold and Inga (Christensen) Tellefsen.
She graduated from Curtis High School in Staten Island in 1942.
She married Andrew J. Berntsen on Oct. 10, 1953. A past treasurer of the Sons of Norway, she enjoyed knitting and reading about famous American women.
Berntsen is survived by her daughter Carol L. Horkan and her husband Dan of Sherman; granddaughters Melanie and Jessica; and a niece and several nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; her son Robert A. Berntsen in 1989; as well as her sister Ruth Anderson and her brother Harold Tellefsen.
Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, N.Y. A service will follow at 11 a.m. with interment afterward at Wooster Cemetery.
