Edward J. Minck, 91, WWII Veteran, Retired Postal Supervisor In Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. - Edward J. Minck of Danbury died Sept. 30. He was 91.

Minck was born Dec. 19, 1921, to Charles A. Minck and Mary Elizabeth (Kelley) Minck. He attended St. Peter School and graduated from Danbury High School. He worked at Mallory Hat Co. until he was inducted into the Army in 1942. He served in the Army Air Corp 82nd Bombardment Squadron, 12th Bombardment Group as a radio operator, mechanic-gunner on B-25 Mitchell Aircraft. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Citation of Honor, Air Medal, 4 Overseas Service Bars, 3 Bronze Battle Stars and POW Medal. He was a member of the American Legion, DAV, VFW and Catholic War Veterans. He served as grand marshall of the Memorial Day Parade in 2001.

After the War, he worked as a carpenter for Charles A. Minck Builders. He joined the United States Postal Service in Danbury as a clerk. He became a supervisor and retired in 1982 and was a member of NARFE.

Minck is survived by his wife, Ellen Bartram Minck; daughter, Cathleen (Minck) Lynch of New Fairfield; three grandchildren; brother, John Minck (MaryAnn) of Vero Beach, Fla.; sisters, Elizabeth Laws of Ridgefield and Virginia Moody of Danbury; sister-in-law, Arlene Bartram; brother-in-law, Edward Reynolds of Bethel; many nieces and nephews; and friend and caregiver, Keisha Williams of Danbury. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Norine Ellen; brother, Charles L Minck; sisters, Janet (William) McCormack and Marguerite Minck; and son-in-law, Robert J. Lynch.

Calling hours are Thursday, Oct. 3 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. in Saint Peter Church, Danbury. Burial with military honors will follow in Saint Peter Cemetery.
