DANBURY, Conn. - Helen Rose (Pracuta) Morrison of Danbury died Monday, Sept. 8. She was 93.
Morrison was born June 1, 1921, in Danbury, to Hipolit and Petrunella Pracuta. She was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1936, and the Danbury Hospital School of Nursing.
She served as a lieutenant in the Navy Nurse Corp during World War II and was registered in the National Women's War Memorial in Washington, D.C. She was a member of the Navy Nurse Corp Association and the Catholic War Veterans.
She was a member of the St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Danbury. She served her community as a nurse, including the position of first aide nurse at the Great Danbury State Fair for many years. She also served many years as a den mother for the Boys Scouts of America.
Her artwork has been admired around the greater Danbury area. She was a member of the Richter Park Association, where she received several awards for her paintings.
Morrison is survived by her sons, Michael Morrison and Robert Morrison and wife, all of Danbury; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; brother, Edward (Anne); and seven nieces, one nephew and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, William Noble Morrison; and siblings, Stella, Chester, and Mary.
Calling hours are Thursday, Sept. 11, from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at St. Gregory the Great Church, Danbury. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery.
