Jeanette M. Hawthorne, 99, Former Danbury Resident

KENT, Conn. - Jeanette M. Hawthorne of Kent, formerly of Danbury, died Sept. 3. She was 99.

Hawthorne was a Danbury native, born in 1915, to William and Minnie (Brundage) Rowley. She was an honor student and graduate of St. Peter School and Danbury High School. She was a graduate of Smith Croft Academy of Beauty and Culture of Bridgeport and subsequently established the former Jean’s Beauty Shop. A member of “The Cellmates” musical group until 2005, she sang, danced and played the mandolin. She was also a member of “The Carnival of Clowns” who performed at local nursing homes and was a member of “The Lioness Club” since 1966. She was a member of St. Peter Church of Danbury.

Hawthorne is survived by her sons, Jon M. Hawthorne, Edward B. Hawthorne and Patrick W. Hawthorne; daughter, Nancy J. Hawthorne-Rohr; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Edward B. Hawthorne; and daughter, Mary Kathryn Donaldson.

Calling hours are Friday, Sept. 19 after 9 a.m. in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury. Funeral services will take place Friday, Sept. 19 at 9:30 a.m. in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Wells, Vt., at the direction of the family.
