Joan Barrenechea, 90, Former Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. – Joan Frances Barrenechea, formerly of Stamford, died Thursday, March 17. She was 90.

She was born in Stamford on Dec. 3, 1925, to James and Amelia (Cosgrove) Joss. 

She was raised in Stamford and lived there until moving to Barefoot Bay, Fla., in 1988. 

She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy High School and followed a career in bookkeeping until becoming a full-time homemaker. 

She is survived by her daughters, Judy Amalfitano and her husband, Bill, of Danbury, and Amy Barrenechea-Chillington of Stamford; sons, Steven Barrenechea of Los Angeles, and Mark Barrenechea of Berkeley, Calif.; grandchildren, Thomas Amalfitano, Robert Amalfitano and his wife, Alejandra; Lindsay Mejias and her husband, Nelson; Melissa Chillington and Madison Chillington; her great-grandchildren, Sophia Mejias and Isabella Amalfitano.

She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Roy Barrenechea; and her brother, James Joss Jr.

Friends are invited to a memorial gathering from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
