DANBURY, Conn. - John A. Stavola, Sr. of Danbury Sunday, Nov.23. He was 85.

Stavola was born in Danbury, to Joseph and Louise (Carlucci) Stavola, Sr. and graduated from Danbury High School, class of 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952, during the Korean War. He was a longtime member of the VFW, Catholic War Veterans and was a past member and captain of the Padanaram Hose Company. He had worked for many years for the former Bard Parker Company and later went on to work for the Public Utilities Department of the City of Danbury, retiring in 1991.

Stavola is survived by his sons, Lee Stavola (Dianna) of Bethel and John A. Stavola, Jr. of Plainville; five grandchildren; a great granddaughter; two nephews, one niece; and many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Joan (Hofmann) Stavola; sister, Rosemarie Fazio; and brother, Joseph Stavola, Jr.

There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private.

Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
