Kenneth A. Johnson, 73, Retired Technician For Laser Optics In Danbury

SHERMAN, Conn. - Kenneth Albert Johnson of Sherman died Saturday, Nov. 29. He was 73.

Johnson was born Dec. 10, 1940, in Danbury, to Franklin W. and Rhoda Penniston Johnson. He grew up in New Milford and was a graduate of New Milford High School, class of 1958. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1963 and was stationed on a destroyer during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After he married he settled in Sherman in 1966.

He was a technician for Laser Optics in Danbury for 37 years, retiring in 2004. He was an EMT and past chief with the Sherman Volunteer Fire Dept., past Justice of the Peace in Sherman. He was a member of the pit crew for the 42 Racing Team in Lebanon Valley, and was a baseball coach of the Sherman Youth Athletic Program for many years.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Martha of Sherman; daughter, Carolyn Challoner (Scott) of Neenah, Wis.; son, Franklin K. Johnson of Gaylordsville; brother, Walter C. Johnson (Roby) of New Milford; sisters, Patricia Johnson of Southbury and Sara Wojciechowski (Robert) of New Milford; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother William F. Penniston.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Kent. A reception will be held at the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department immediately following the service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Sherman North Cemetery.
