Louis J. Pavlu, 102, Formerly Of Danbury, Was NYC Transit Cop

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Louis J. Pavlu, Jr., formerly of Hawthorne Terrace in Danbury, died Saturday, March 23. He was 102.

Pavlu was born in New York City on Jan. 20, 1911, son of Louis J. Sr., and Katherine (Krochkva) Pavlu.

Pavlu worked as a patrolman for the New York City Transit Authority for more than 25 years.

He was a longtime past parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church and was with the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus.

Pavlu is survived by his daughter, Mary-Lou Pakenas (Robert) of Arizona; sister, Mary Hornick of N.J.; many nieces and nephews;  friend, Katherine Sniffin. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Rosemary (Kiernan); brothers, Edward and William Pavlu; sisters, Stephanie Stronczer and Catherine Gallagher.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 1, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Danbury. Burial of cremated remains will follow in St. John Cemetery, Middle Village, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Pavlu’s memory to The Gideon’s International.
