Louis A. Kaufmann, 91, Lifelong Danbury Resident, WWII Vet, Machinist

DANBURY, Conn. - Louis A. Kaufmann of Danbury died Friday, Aug. 9. He was 91.

Kaufmann was born March 22, 1922, in Danbury, son of John and Teresa (Ihloff) Kaufmann. He was a sergeant in the US Army during World War II with the 2nd Battalion, 544 Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment, stationed in New Guinea, Northern Solomon’s and Luzon. He was a lifelong resident of Danbury and was employed as a machinist by several area manufacturers until retiring at age 72. He was a 67 year member of Union Masonic Lodge #40 and Stellar Lodge #55 Order of Eastern Star, holding many offices, including that of past master, past district deputy, and past patron. He was also a member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honour and the Shriners.

Kaufmann is survived by daughters, Diane Britton (Tom) of Bethel, Deborah Kaufmann and Denise Kaufmann both of Danbury and Drucilla Gravino (Gerard) of Somers, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He also leaves a son and his family. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Caroline (Grouse) Kaufmann;a brother; and two sisters.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery.
