Maria Alcina Knapp, 66, Former Danbury Resident

DANBURY, Conn. -- Maria Alcina (Cabral) Knapp, 66, of Danbury, died on Dec. 29, 2014 at Danbury Hospital.

Knapp was born on Oct. 5, 1948 in South Paio-Gouveia, Portugal to the late Manuel and Emilia Cabral. She immigrated to the United States as a young child and became an American citizen.

Knapp married her Danbury High School sweetheart, Richard Knapp. They spent 44 years together and raised two daughters Dawn (Smith) and Kellie (DiMone).

Knapp was employed at Grolier/Scholastic Books until it moved from the area. She began experiencing medical challenges at the same time and took that time to address her health. In 2007, she received a kidney from a donor that allowed her to spend time with her family and beloved granddaughter, Keira Smith.

Maria is survived by her husband Richard Knapp; daughter Dawn (Christopher) and granddaughter Keira Smith; daughter Kellie (Frank), and step-granddaughter Gabryella DiMone; sisters Maria Fernanda Bento and Virginia Bass; brothers Louis, Lawrence, and Edward Cabral; nieces and nephews and several lifelong friends.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Jan 3, beginning at 2 p.m., Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St. Danbury.
