DANBURY, Conn. - Marianne Brody Gaston of Danbury died Tuesday, Feb. 4. She was 95.
Gaston was born Dec. 5, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Isaac and Rose Alpern Brody. Raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, she graduated from Washington Irving High School of the Arts. She chose a career in commercial art by attending Parsons School of Design. Her first job was with Franklin Simon Department Store in New York City as a staff artist. She had studied oil painting at the Art Students League in New York under Brackmann, Vytlacil, and Raphael Soyer. She also studied painting with Moses Soyer and Jack Levine. Since early 1990, she had been living at her Danbury residence.
Gaston is survived by her son, Peter Gaston (Anne) in Cornelius, N.C.; sisters, Evelyn Levatin in Belvedere-Tiburon, Calif., and Judy Glazer in Dallas Texas; many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; first husband, Robert Gaston; second husband, Ziggy Lane; and sister, Pauline Rennert.
Final plans to celebrate Gaston’s life privately are pending.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gaston's name may be made to the Art Students League of New York, 215 West 57th Street, New York, NY 10019.
