WARWICK, RI. - Mark F. Schmiedel of Warwick, R.I, formerly of Danbury, died Dec. 31. He was 60.
Schmiedel was born in Danbury, Conn.; son of Sally L. (McDermott) Schmiedel and George F. Schmiedel. After graduating from Western Connecticut State University in 1976, he worked as a writer for the sports department of the News Times in Danbury, Conn., eventually becoming sports editor. For the past 25 years, he was a section editor for the Providence Journal's Sports Department. He was also employed by the Tasca Automotive Group.
Schmiedel is survived by his children, Gregory, Carolyn and Daniel Schmiedel; brother, Steven Schmiedel; sister, Brenda Forrest; former wife, Anne (Katzenberger) Schmiedel; and girlfriend, Linda (Susmeyer) Domroes. He was predeceased by his father, George.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 8 in St. Peter Church, 104 Main St., Danbury, Conn. Burial to follow at Wooster Cemetery, Danbury, Conn.
