Mary Dorothea Placella, 71, Danbury Resident

DANBURY, Conn. – Mary Dorothea (North) Placella, of Danbury, wife of Rocco N. Placella, Jr., died Wednesday, April 13 at Danbury Hospital. She was 71.

She was born in Norwalk on May 21, 1944, daughter of the late Jacob A. North and Edna Ells. She was a graduate of Bethel High School and worked for many years for Grolier in Danbury. She was an active member of the First Assembly of God in Brookfield for more than 35 years. She enjoyed her church life and volunteered as missionette coordinator, Sunday school teacher, small group leader and was the kitchen coordinator for church receptions. She was also a member of the Women’s Ministry, Prayer Group and Garden Club. She loved reading to her grandchildren, driving to Vermont with her sweetheart, drawing, photography and discovering her genealogy.

In addition to her husband of 53 years, Rocco, she is survived by her four children, David Placella, Susanne Quattro and her husband, Peter, James Placella and his wife, Danelle, and Cathleen Jackson and her husband, Michael; six grandchildren, Ethan Placella, Samantha Quattro, Joshua and Jacob Placella, Lucy and Noah Jackson; her sister, Drucilla Ekwurzel; brothers James North, Daniel North (Susan) and Robert North (April); and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday from 5-7 p.m. at First Assembly of God, 133 Junction Road, Brookfield. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God. Cremation will follow at the direction of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to First Assembly of God, Missions Department.
