Ridgefield Police Mourn Death Of Sgt. Edward DeLisle, Founded Safety Day

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Retired Ridgefield Police Sgt. Edward DeLisle, who started the town's Annual Safety Day, died Tuesday, Oct. 24.

DeLisle served with the Ridgefield Police Department from 1969 to 1995. During this time, he was named the Ridgefield Police Department's Officer of the Year in 1979, received the department's Exceptional Service Award in 1984 and earned a Commendation in 1987.

He was a member of the Ridgefield Police Department's Police Olympic Team, a Field Training Officer and an active member in the PBA and Police Union.

"A true practitioner of community policing, Sgt. DeLisle was responsible for starting Ridgefield’s Annual Safety Day," the department said in a Facebook post.

After completing 26 years of service with the Ridgefield Police Department, DeLisle served as a police officer for the Town of New Milford from 1995 to 2014.

"Sgt. DeLisle, thank you for your dedicated service to the Ridgefield Police Department and to the Town of Ridgefield," the Facebook post said.

Arrangements are being handled by the Green Funeral Home in Danbury.
