DANBURY, Conn. - Robert Gentry of Danbury died Saturday, June 28. He was 89.

Gentry was born May 15, 1925, in Oregon, Ill., to Lee and Christine Gentry. He attended the University of Illinois, Champaign, graduating with a master's in accounting. He received his CPA designation and embarked on a 40-year career as a university administrator at the University of Illinois, Harvard University, University of Wisconsin, and Seton Hall. He was last employed as an administrator at Boehringer Ingelheim, in Danbury.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a founding member of the Danbury Men's Club and was a member of the Ridgefield Men's Club. He started the Adopt a Street Program in Danbury and was involved in numerous charitable organizations serving the Danbury community.

Gentry is survived by his wife, Pat (Wilbourn) Gentry; children, Spencer Gentry (Mary Belle) of Framingham, Mass., Ann Gentry Recine (Louis) of Eau Claire, Wis., Mary Gentry of Danbury and Carol Gentry of Midlothian, Va.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are Wednesday, July 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home , 57 Main St., Danbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church, Danbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
