Adams wrote personal and emotional accounts on her blog, LisaBAdams.com, detailing treatment along with thoughts on grief, loss, life and family. Adams also had a huge following on her blog and Twitter as her story resonated with women everywhere.

“Lisa was an incredibly precious person — she personified grace and courage and strength and integrity,’’ Thomma Lyn Grindstaff commented in a memoriam piece on Adams’ blog. “She touched countless people’s lives, and I will always remember her indomitable spirit. Her strength and love and courage will continue to inspire others for many years to come, and this world is a better place for having had her in it."

Another women, Ann (no last name), wrote: “Lisa taught me so much from her experiences. She was who I turned to when my close friend started treatment for kidney cancer, and was who I turned to when my friend passed away. She touched me for her bravery, her honesty, and how she used her own struggles to help others. She reminded me on bad days to find beauty in the world and to share it.”

Former New York Times executive editor Bill Keller wrote an op-ed last year in which he criticized Adams, pointing out how his father-in-law’s “peaceful” death from cancer contrasted Adams’ public thoughts. His wife, Emma, said Adams “was dying out loud” in a story on The Guardian. Emma Keller’s piece was later removed.

Adams was diagnosed in 2006. She posted more than 176,000 tweets and had more than 15,000 followers. Stories about her death ran in the Boston Globe and New York Times, along with other national publications.

Adams enjoyed reading, writing, music and poetry. She dedicated much of her time to caring for and raising her three children and being active in the Darien community.

Adams was born July 29, 1969, in Nashville, Tenn. to Dr. Lawrence Bonchek and Dr. Rita Bonchek. She graduated from Conestoga Valley High School in Lancaster, Pa., and from Franklin & Marshall College. She received a master's degree from Rutgers University in 1997.

She married Clarke Adams in 1997 and moved to Darien in 2004.

She is survived by her parents, husband, daughter Paige and sons Colin and Tristan. She is also survived by her brother, Mark.

Visitation is from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, in Darien. There will be a memorial service at 4 p.m. Monday, March 16, at the First Congregational Church, 14 Brookside Road in Darien. A reception will follow the ceremony beginning 5:30 p.m. at the Country Club of Darien.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a fund whose proceeds will be solely used to support research into metastatic breast cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York. A link to the fund is available on the homepage of her blog at www.lisabadams.com.
