RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — A Ridgefield High senior who was babysitting four kids safely got everyone out of the home at 4 Encampment Place when a fire that started in a closet became out of control, according to the Ridgefield Press.

The Ridgefield Fire Department responded to the fire at Encampment Place.

Firefighters credit the teenager with acting responsibly and calling 911 about the fire, which broke out at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the Ridgefield Press said.

The fire destroyed much of the second story of the home and caused smoke damage on the first floor — and repairs may take six months or longer, the Press said.

The family's four dogs were also safely evacuated from the home, which is near the Danbury border, the Ridgefield Press said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
